
Recently the Royal Aeronautical Society helped an experimental human-powered aircraft from BBC science TV show Bang Goes the Theory to take flight. Chairman of the RAeS Human Powered Aircraft group Bill Brooks explains the Society’s input.
The 9th November, 2961 was the day that Derek Piggott became the first man since Icarus to take off and fly under his own steam. 50 years on and the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Human Powered Aircraft Group are still passionate about achieving recognition for the efforts made by those aeronautical engineering students and are hopeful that it may one day become an Olympic sport.
