Seattle Branch elects new Chairman

Pamela P. Valdez FRAeS has been elected to serve as chairman of the Seattle Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Ms. Valdez is director of Boeing’s KC-46A Tanker Support & Training Integrated Product Team.

Derby Branch Sir Henry Royce Lecture

The Derby Branch Sir Henry Royce Lecture will take place on the 28th June and will be delivered by Tony Tyler FRAeS, former head of Cathay Pacific and now Director General and CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The title of the lecture is “Working Together for a Sustainable Future”

2012 Branches Conference

40 delegates representing over 30 RAeS Branches attended the 102nd Branches Conference on the 11/12th May. The conference took place at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel Accrington and was jointly hosted by the Chester, Manchester and Preston Branches of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Centennial Scholarships 2012 – applications close 31 May

A reminder that applications to the Royal Aeronautical Society Centennial Scholarship scheme close on 31 May 2012. The fund is open to those seeking suppport for tuition fees in subjects relating to aerospace and aviation and to people and organisations running national STEM and aerospace programmes to encourage young people into the field.

The Stevenage Branch annual Leslie Bedford lecture took place on the 19thApril and was delivered by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton, Chief of the Air Staff. The lecture, entitled ‘21st Century Air Power’, took place courtesy of MBDA in the Quadrangle of their Stevenage facility.

The Boscombe Down Branch Sir Henry Tizard Lecture evening took place on Tuesday 13th March 2012 in the Officers’ Mess at MOD Boscombe Down. The Branch had the pleasure of hosting Mr Mark Hempsell as guest speaker for this prestigious event. Mr Hempsell is the Future Programmes Director at Reaction Engines, which conducts research into space propulsion systems centred around the development of the SKYLON re-usable spaceplane.

Mr Brandon O’Reilly FRAeS, Chief Executive TAG Farnborough Airport, delivered the 15th Farnborough Branch Templer Lecture on the 14th February. The Templer lecture is the premier event in the Farnborough Branch lecture calendar and celebrates the man regarded by many as the father of military aviation in the U.K.

Toulouse Branch Gordon Corps lecture

The Toulouse Branch was formed in 1991 with Airbus test pilot Gordon Corps as first chairman. Following his untimely death in 1992 the Branch instigated a named lecture in his honour. The 20th Gordon Corp lecture duly took place on the 17th January and was delivered by Ed Strongman, Airbus Chief Test Pilot Military.

Paris Branch to host the Lindbergh lecture

The Royal Aeronautical Society’s Lindbergh Lecture will be hosted by the Paris Branch of the Society in partnership with the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace of Paris – Le Bourget. The lecture will take place on Tuesday 28th February.
