I wish to demonstrate my revolutionary Skycygal human powered aircraft concept via a half scale radio controlled model at the Icarus Cup. The Skycygal is destined to be the world's first practical sport HPA.

My goal is to pass on my discoveries and concepts to a younger generation.

Hi Ron,

I currently work at Hursley Park as the voluntary site historian/archivist. I'm always looking to chat to those who were at Hursley during the Supermarine days and would love to hear from you about your recollections if you would be prepared to spare the time and are interested?

I can be contacted at hursley.park@gmail.com

Many thanks

Well done! This initiative is long overdue and has my full support. If you think I can do anything to help promote this new programme, then get in touch with me and ask. I started my 5 year apprenticeship just over 50 years' ago and have never looked back with regret.

Hi Krishna. For aircraft maintenance apprenticeships in the UK, you can download a list of maintenance organisations from the 'Resources' section of our Careers in Aerospace website, www. careersinaerospace.com as well as browse the Company Directory for information about recruitment from across the aerospace sector. Note that for aircraft maintenance selection procedures, you will need to show you have good 'hand skills' (working with tools etc.) as well as good understanding of design and technology, maths and science. In India, you may find similar opportunities with local airlines' maintenance divisions, specialist Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centres, and with manufacturers which offer 'through life' maintenance of their products to customers.

I am probably one of the oldest alive who worked at Hursley Park, from 1950-57, but am unable to attend the Mitchell lecture. I did not meet Mitchell of course but knew Joe Smith and Alan Clifton quite well. I worked on the Swift, 509 and 525, and early thoughts on the TSR2.

I will be very pleased to read the lecture.

The pin badge is of silver metal with the Society logo printed on it and is 18mm in diameter. You pin it on to your jacket collar or shirt and it has a rounded back piece to safely attach the pin.

You announce an "elegant new badge" for £3.
BUT ... you fail to inform us what it is made of, how big, do you pin it on, do you stick it on, do you sew it on...????

why so secretive?

Just recovering from seeing slow turning propellers when I close my eyes. I was too busy herding the enormous butterflies to record all the times and distances, so many thanks to Claire and Emma for that and also writing this up for the Society.
It has now been proven beyond doubt that HPA flying is a practical and exciting air sport with an excellent future. There was also much exchange of help, ideas and experience between teams which made the event even more enjoyable.

I am a Fellow of the RAes and a visiting Professor at Cranfield University. I was born at the start of WW2 and first attended the Farnborough Air display in 1052. My entire career has been closely linked to aerospace, in particular transonic aerodynamics. I worked at Hatfield in the 1960s when de Havilland had just changed to Hawker Siddeley.
One thing I have noted over the years is there is a growing mismatch between real aircraft geometry and what is initially proposed. This did not matter when we had a strong aerodynamic base in this country, so that silly proposals based on an academic idea of what should be done can be filtered out early by people with experience. I have found in the various courses I have presented at Cranfield in the last 20 years that the UK has a much better understanding of the practical balance which should be struck than most other countries, due to our former strong industrial base.
An example of what I initiated when working at ARA is the UK National Laminar flow programme
I would like to visit your stand at the the show but have recently had a hip replacement and so cannot. I would love to discuss this further, so please get back to me when convenient. If you ask anyone in a senior position in Aerospace who I am e.g. John Stollery at Cranfield University, I am sure he will be pleased to tell you.
Best Wishes,
Allan Bocci

I readily agree with the concepts of this. I have written, but only twice to the Royal Aeronautical Society on the same subject, but possibly a different theme, stating that there is so much knowledge and experience in our membership, that is lost to both the Society and our society in general. When I consider my meagre knowledge but dating back for 60 years, that knowledge lost by members of more experience, it is almost criminal that this albeit aged, experience just goes to waste without any "Retention", that may, just may, help some company, or plan or even the education of those entering this esteemed aviation world!
