On Monday 25th June over 60 voting members of the Society attended the combined SGM/GM called to approve the proposed new governance procedures.
Following a briefing from Past-President Capt David Rowland, Chairman of the Governance Working Group, there was an open floor debate giving all present the opportunity to ask questions or make statements on the proposals.
When the vote came on the 2 proposals (changes to the Royal Charter and changes to the By-Laws) the motions were overwhelmingly passed – with 2 people voting against each proposal.
Commenting on the outcome Capt Rowland said, “This is of course just the beginning, now the hard work of implementing the new procedures must start. However, I really do believe they will be of major benefit to the Society.”

I readily agree with the concepts of this. I have written, but only twice to the Royal Aeronautical Society on the same subject, but possibly a different theme, stating that there is so much knowledge and experience in our membership, that is lost to both the Society and our society in general. When I consider my meagre knowledge but dating back for 60 years, that knowledge lost by members of more experience, it is almost criminal that this albeit aged, experience just goes to waste without any “Retention”, that may, just may, help some company, or plan or even the education of those entering this esteemed aviation world!
