Please note the following information about access to the Society’s London Headquarters during the period of 25th July to 15th August 2012.
Hiring No. 4 Hamilton Place as a Meeting and Events Venue to external clients, when the Royal Aeronautical Society is not utilising the house, is an essential source of revenue which supports the activities of the Society. The No. 4 Hamilton Place team have successfully hired the house to the Japanese Olympic Committee for operation as their flagship location ‘Japan House’ during the Olympic Games, generating significant revenue for the Society. The decision to exclusively hire No. 4 Hamilton Place as Japan House was carefully considered by the Society’s executive team, subsequently referred to and endorsed by Council.
Members and Corporate Partners please note that No. 4 Hamilton Place will not be available for use during the period 25th July to 15th August 2012.
It has been widely reported in the press and during consultation meetings with LOCOG, Metropolitan Police and Transport for London that Hamilton Place, Park Lane, Old Park Lane, Piccadilly and surrounding areas will be either closed or have limited access during the Olympic Games. All vehicle access during the main games period will only be via pre-authorised Vehicle Access Passes and there will be highly policed security checks on all vehicles. Local hotels are the Olympic Family accommodation centres; Hyde Park will be the public access Olympic Live Site and some road races will take place on Park Lane. It is predicted that the area local to Hamilton Place will, at times, be as busy as the main Olympic Village in Stratford with high volumes of people passing through Knightsbridge, Hyde Park and Green Park underground stations. Official guidance can be found at www.GetAheadoftheGames.com or www.tfl.gov.uk/2012.
Based on guidance from LOCOG, Metropolitan Police and Transport for London and supported by the Society’s ability to work from any location with internet access as many staff as possible will be working from home during this period. There will be telephone cover during this period and all staff will be accessible via email to provide members and corporate partners with a comprehensive service.
