According to Turkish Airlines chairman Hamdi Topcu, the airline plans to order at least 15 Airbus A380 or Boeing 747-8s as early as next month.
In a bid to lure transfer traffic between Europe and Asia away from its European rivals, the new aircraft will be added to the airline’s long-haul fleet. Speculation is arising as to whether the carrier will choose to announce the impending orders at July’s Farnborough Airshow. As Europe’s fifth largest carrier, Turkish Airlines is also looking to strengthen its position throughout Africa and Asia through a combination of takeover prospects and hub development opportunities.
