Global airline profits fell by 55% in the last quarter of 2011, according to a financial report published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The exception were North American carriers which doubled their profits compared to Q4 in 2010. Passengers levels in December increased by 5.4% compared to the end of 2010, less than the 5.9% growth for the year as a whole. Meanhile, the air cargo market did less well in 2011, contracting by 0.7%.
